About the project:
We’re developing a powerful gifting SaaS platform that helps companies and individuals easily send gifts at scale - for employee rewards, customer engagement, and special occasions.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of backend software engineering experience, with strong senior-level ownership;
- Strong PHP skills and solid hands-on Laravel experience;
- Deep understanding of MySQL / relational databases, including schema design, transactions, migrations, and query optimization;
- Strong experience building and maintaining production APIs (REST or GraphQL, authentication, integrations, versioning);
- Experience working with production systems, including debugging complex issues, logging, monitoring, and incident resolution;
- Strong understanding of reliability, scalability, and performance in production environments;
- Experience with safe deployments, release processes, and troubleshooting production issues;
- Ability to work effectively with an existing/mature codebase, identify technical risks, and improve it incrementally;
- Strong engineering practices: code reviews, testing, PR workflows, clean and maintainable code;
- Strong ownership mindset - ability to take a problem from investigation and solution design through implementation, rollout, and monitoring;
- Good frontend awareness - ability to understand modern frontend architecture and collaborate effectively with frontend engineers;
- Familiarity with AWS environments and deployment concepts;
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools as part of the engineering workflow;
- Strong communication and collaboration skills;
- English: Upper-Intermediate (B2) or higher.
Nice to Have:
- Hands-on experience with Node.js or experience working in a polyglot backend environment;
- Willingness and ability to work with Node.js-based services as the platform evolves;
- Experience with queues/workers, asynchronous processing, event-driven systems, and job orchestration;
- Experience modernizing mature codebases, including refactoring, dependency upgrades, architecture improvements, and increasing test coverage;
- Familiarity with Vue.js or other modern JavaScript frameworks;
- Experience with high-availability SaaS products and production incident management.
What You’ll Do:
- Build and maintain backend features, services, and APIs using PHP / Laravel;
- Work with both the existing platform and contribute to its ongoing technical evolution and modernization;
- Design reliable flows around integrations, gift lifecycle/state, and operational tooling;
- Implement and maintain background jobs, asynchronous processing, retries, and failure handling;
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues and help improve overall system stability;
- Improve application performance and data quality through MySQL optimization, schema improvements, and safe migrations;
- Collaborate closely with frontend engineers and product/design teams on API contracts and end-to-end delivery;
- Raise the engineering quality bar through code reviews, testing practices, technical discussions, and pragmatic refactoring;
- Take ownership of a domain from problem → solution → rollout → monitoring → iteration;
- Support and mentor other engineers and contribute to technical decisions and engineering standards;
- Gradually expand your knowledge across the platform, including newer Node.js-based components.
