Lead PHP/Laravel Engineer — Product-Focused

About the Role

Our client is a leading European company providing solutions for product, material, and logistics cycles, with a strong focus on recycling and sustainability.

We are looking for a Lead Engineer to help shape and build an enterprise multi-tenant SaaS platform. You’ll work closely with Product Managers, Product Owners, and Product Designers, contributing not only to technical implementation but also to product decisions.

You’ll help translate complex business and customer needs into scalable technical solutions, challenge assumptions, and balance user value, business impact, and technical complexity.

What You’ll Do

• Design and develop web applications and services using PHP, Laravel, SQL, JavaScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Work closely with Product and Design to turn business and customer needs into effective solutions.
• Contribute to product and technical decisions, bringing engineering perspective and alternative solutions.
• Challenge requirements constructively and help evaluate trade-offs.
• Take ownership of technical solutions from idea to implementation.
• Break down complex problems and drive solutions independently.
• Evolve the multi-tenant SaaS platform, architecture, APIs, and engineering practices.
• Develop and maintain Laravel-based logistics applications and Magento-based web shop solutions.
• Mentor engineers and contribute to technical discussions and initiatives.

What We’re Looking For

Must Have

• 8+ years of professional experience with PHP and Laravel.
• Strong backend development experience.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS platforms.
• Solid relational database skills, particularly MariaDB/MySQL.
• Experience working closely with Product, Design, and other non-engineering stakeholders.
• Strong product mindset and ability to connect technical decisions with business and customer needs.
• Ability to translate business requirements into clear technical solutions.
• Comfortable challenging requirements and discussing technical trade-offs.
• Structured, analytical, and independent approach.
• Strong written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Experience influencing product decisions or contributing to product discovery.
• Experience using product data, analytics, or customer feedback to support decisions.
• Magento 2.x experience.
• JavaScript/React experience.
• Experience leading engineers or technical initiatives.
